Always second-guessing myself, looking for a guarantee that I'll choose the right way. We are all products of our choices and decisions, right? Realizing that a lifetime's worth of those choices and decisions have made me the person I am today, I understand that quite a few of them have been faulty and I'm not the perfect person I wanted to be. Finally. I hope. What's this? My long forgotten blog? Yes, it's been a very long time.
I was thinking earlier today that life is a string of disasters of varying proportion. The thought was actually tongue-in-cheek since I really don't believe that. I'm actually able to laugh at some of my experiences and find myself more accepting of "what is" than I was capable of a few years ago. Live and learn . . .

He called it the Good Earth Challenge and it contained, among many other lovely selections, this mix of beads.
I need to apologize to Andrew for stealing this photo from his blog as I didn't have the foresight to photograph the plethora of beads and Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03058676212313057308noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4699103876816135931.post-62058628072055835102014-05-10T09:31:00.002-05:002014-05-10T10:13:40.777-05:00Oh my gosh! . . . my recycled glass lampwork beads? Let me make a short story longer. I have always loved glass and fire and color. Eighteen years ago I became aware that lampwork beads could be made at home and didn't have to be hatched in a factory somewhere in Asia. I purchased a "starter" kit that came with an assortment of colored glass rods, a handful of mandrels and a Hot Head torch. I am not very good about keeping up my blog. I've been recovering from eye surgery, though, and my vision hasn't yet returned to normal. Although I was late, I finally got my Bead Soup out to my lovely partner Kitty Durmaj. You have probably seen her work several times in Belle Armoire Jewelry and Jewelry Affaire. Believe me, Kitty is a woman of STYLE!

Or maybe the best. If you've known me for a while I'm sure you know the backstory. If you missed it, you're probably better off.

Back in April, Amy Freeland had a refreshing idea for a blog hop. The rules were simple:
Google the cocktail, and use the ingredients, image, color, season it's usually enjoyed, era it became famous, or whatever else to inspire any piece of jewelry.
The cocktail assigned to me was "Captain & Coke." In January I entered this challenge posted by Michelle Mach.
I loved the rhinestone spacers and the color of the crystals in the kit. My kit arrived beautifully packaged by Michelle.

The Azalea Festival in Palatka, Florida, opened this morning. The scheduled festivities include an Arts & Crafts show in which we have a booth. It was a busy day and I only found time enough to make one bracelet:

Woot! It's finally here! Lori Anderson's 5th Annual Bead Soup Blog Party Blog Hop! Here's a photo of the very generous bead soup I received from my partner, Amy Freeland. Look at all that treasure!
Here's my first piece. The concept came from my husband, an engineer and former builder.

How is this happening?
Today was to be my day to work on my project for Lori Anderson's Bead Soup Blog Party. I got out my "soup" and my tools and thought briefly about a design. Actually it is a design suggested by Jim, but that is currently neither here nor there. I went through my dish of "orphans" and added a pink MOP ring about the size of a nickel to the plan. Jim left to do his errands and I was well on myKayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03058676212313057308noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4699103876816135931.post-83472599530159641812012-02-19T16:30:00.000-06:002014-02-18T16:30:22.870-06:00Not for everyone.
That's this necklace. I learned the techniques to make this masterpiece in a class with the incomparable Richard Salley at the Bead & Button Show last June. This is actually the second one I've made and won't be the last. I'm obsessed with these! Thank you, Richard!

. . . who sketches and/or plans a jewelry design, they just sort of happen to me. And that probably explains why they don't always work out, but so goes the life of the ADD-afflicted. I sat down earlier today to work on something else entirely and the next thing I knew, this bracelet started to form in front of me.

I ran across the "Suddenly Spring Challenge" by Michelle Mach and knew immediately that I wanted to be part of it. Reason #1, I love the aqua colored crystals. Reason #2, I love the little blingy rhinestone spacers.
This is my second challenge of Michelle's and, just as before, my kit arrived beautifully packaged. Some people just have that flair!
